Ohio State Announces 2014-15 Schedule

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 2014-2015 Ohio State women's ice hockey schedule will feature a solid non-conference slate to go along with a competitive WCHA schedule, announced Monday.
The schedule includes a total of 35 games, six non-conference contests and 18 home games in Columbus. The season will begin on Sept. 28 with an exhibition game against the Western Mustangs, a Canadian University of the CIS.
The regular season will officially start at home against the University of New Hampshire. The Buckeyes swept UNH last December. The following weekend the Buckeyes will travel to Madison, Wis., to kick off the first WCHA series of the year, Oct. 10-12. The Badgers appeared in the Frozen Four last season for the seventh time.
Ohio State will return home the following weekend to face the Bemidji State Beavers, Oct. 17-18. The last time the Beavers were in Columbus the two teams set an NCAA record for most penalty minutes earned in a single game at 318 minutes.
The Buckeyes finish the first month of the campaign with an off weekend before hosting St. Cloud State the following weekend Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
The next stop for the Scarlet and Gray will be in Mankato, Minn., where the Buckeyes will face Minnesota State, Nov. 7-8. Three days later, the squad will play at home on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, against Mercyhurst.
The Buckeyes will then face off against Minnesota at home Nov. 14-15. The last time the Buckeyes played the Gophers, the score ended in a tie, marking the second time the Gophers hadn't won in their last 71 games. Buckeyes gained the extra point winning a nine-round shootout.
Grand Forks, N.D. is the next travel stop for the Buckeyes who will play the University of North Dakota Nov. 21-22. The following weekend the Buckeyes will be on the road again to Pittsburgh, Pa., where they will play Robert Morris the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 28.
With only two weekends to play in December, the Buckeyes will wrap up the first half of their season playing Minnesota Duluth at home, Dec. 5-6. The last travel weekend of 2014 will be to Bemidji State, Dec. 19-20.
To start off the New Year, the Buckeyes will travel to State College, Pa., to play third-year program Penn State. In the second half of the season the Buckeyes will also hit the road to St. Cloud (Jan. 9-10), Minnesota (Jan. 30-31) and Minnesota Duluth (Feb. 20-21). The Buckeyes will then host North Dakota (Jan 16-17), Minnesota State (Feb. 6-7) and Wisconsin (Feb 13-14).
The Top four teams in the WCHA conference standings will host the first round of playoffs. From there the winners will play in the WCHA Final Faceoff at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.
Ohio State finished its 2013-14 season with 15 wins. The Buckeyes welcome eight newcomers to the 2014-15 squad led by fourth-year head coach Nate Handrahan.
