Women's Hockey Q&A: Tessa Bonhomme
Senior defenseman Tessa Bonhomme has collected numerous awards and accolades during her years at Ohio State. AHCA First Team and Second Team All-America, WCHA Player of the Year, WCHA Defensive Player of the Year, two-time First Team All-WCHA selection, two-year captain, seven-time WCHA Player of the Week ... and the list continues. But perhaps the most impressive thing is how grounded the native of Sudbury, Ontario remains.
As a senior, I want to... have the time of my life. Leave with no regrets.
You would never guess that I.... am a physics wizz.
The hardest thing I’ve ever done is... bike around PEI (Prince Edward Island) for five days. My muscles haven't forgiven me yet.
Three words to describe me are... (please say with a whistle) sassy, sophisticated and so organized.
The best thing about playing at home is... Super fans, getting my see my parents, NO AIRPORT DELAYS!!
The things I like most and least about road trips are ... Most = our airport tricks, getting to hang around with the girls I see every day of the week. Least = the delays, early wake ups, uncomfortable sleeps when I have the middle seat.
Fans may not know this about the team... Keys and Smitty are long lost twins, Coozie (Christina Mancuso) has two left feet (for real, I'm not joking), on average Katie Lachapelle chews 36.75 pieces of gum a game.
My biggest pet peeve is... when people smack 36.75 pieces of gum a game.
The person I would like to be stuck in an elevator with is... Prince Harry
In 20 years, I would like to be... alive, working a job that I love, raising my kids, hopefully still have blonde hair (not grey) and living in Canada!!
When not at the rink, my favorite thing to do is... collecting roomie points, hang out with the roomies on our social floor. (floor 1)
I can’t imagine living without... home made Perogies or Baba soup. I’m sure a lot of the girls are with me on this one.
I am an avid fan of these sports teams... Sudbury Wolves, Columbus Blue Jackets.
Favorite song to sing in the shower... I don’t have good vocals. I save myself the agony.
My favorite candy is... Nibs, and the purple licorice Jody brings in. Man alive, it's good.
The last movie I saw was... The Last King of Scotland.
My favorite spot on campus is... SASSO, my office.
What are your pre-game rituals/routines? Volleyball with Cheese (Lisa Chesson), Morg and Keys, goof around, hand ball, dynamic warm up, get dressed. Nothing special really, I’m easy going.
What’s in your refrigerator? Absolutely nothing, I’m waiting for my parents to get here so I can fill it.
What are your plans for after graduation? Grow up I guess, have to do it sometime. I try not to look that far in advance, it's scary. I have ideas, but nothing set. Hopefully stay in touch with the girls and come down and visit as much as possible.
How did it feel the first time you pulled on the jersey for Team Canada? It was a rush. It was at Under-22’s in Lake Placid, N.Y., and we were playing the U.S. My adrenaline was flowing and I was nervous enough to cry. No worries, I didn’t. I went out there and had fun. I think knowing my family was there supporting me helped a lot. Thankfully my Baba (grandmother) was around to keep tabs on my playing time, God forbid they upset her!
What did you learn spending a season away from Ohio State to train with the Canadian Centralization Program? How much I missed school.
