The Ohio State women’s hockey team fell to Bemidji State Saturday, 2-1, at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn.
After skating to a scoreless first period for the second consecutive afternoon, each squad got a goal within the first minutes two minutes of the second. Following a Natasha Kostenko goal that put the Beavers ahead 1-0 18 seconds into the period, freshman forward Julia McKinnon quickly responded with the game-tying score at the 1:24 mark. Freshman Melani Moylan tallied her second assist of the season on the goal.
Mackenzie Thurston scored the game-winner for the Beavers while on the power play with 2:41 remaining in regulation.
The Buckeyes outshot Bemidji State 23-22 in the game. Redshirt junior goaltender Chelsea Knapp stopped 20 of 22 shots she faced while Beaver goaltender Abby Ryplanski stopped 22 of 23.
Ohio State (17-9-2, 12-8-2 WCHA) returns to action against Minnesota Feb. 8-9 at the OSU Ice Rink.
