Buckeyes Fall to Minnesota State, 4-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team fell to Minnesota State Friday night at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn., by a score of 4-1.
Redshirt senior Chelsea Knapp got the start for Ohio State and stopped 30 of 33 shots faced. Danielle Butters picked up the win in goal for the Mavericks while making 38 saves.
Minnesota State took a one goal lead into the first intermission after a Savannah Quandt goal put the Mavericks on the board at 12:03 of the first period.
The Buckeyes took advantage of a MSU tripping call late in the second as freshman Katie Matheny scored her second of the season with 10 seconds left on the game clock. Sophomore Cara Zubko and senior Annie Svedin picked up assists on the scoring play.
The Mavericks got a power play goal of their own just under five minutes into the third off the stick of Kelsie Scott and Kari Lundberg added an even strength score a few moments later to put MSU up 3-1. MSU added an empty net score at the 17:45 mark of the period from Nicole Germaine.
The Buckeyes were able to capitalize on only one of seven power play chances while MSU finished the game 1-2. OSU had the advantage in shots on goal in the contest 39-34.
Ohio State (3-7-2, 2-7-2 WCHA) and Minnesota State (4-9-0, 1-8-0 WCHA) meet again tomorrow afternoon with opening face-off set for 2:07 p.m. ET.
