MADISON, Wis. — The Ohio State University women’s ice hockey team took its first loss of the season at the hands of the No. 1 University of Wisconsin Badgers, 7-0, in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association clash on Saturday afternoon.
The Buckeyes (7-1-1, 5-1-1 WCHA) found themselves in an early hole after Baylee Wellhausen scored just 3:27 into the game. The Badgers added to their lead with a goal from Presley Norby at the 6:57 mark, and then tacked on a power-play-goal from Abby Roque with less than nine minutes to play in the period, sending Ohio State into the intermission facing a 3-0 deficit.
Things settled down in the second period as neither team scored for the entire frame. Breakaways from Dani Sadek and Jacyn Reeves nearly resulted in goals, but the Badger’s goaltender Kristen Campbell stood tall to keep the Buckeyes from clawing away at the Wisconsin lead.
After the quiet second period, Wisconsin tacked on four more goals in the third to secure the 7-0 win.
The Buckeyes look to get a series split when they take on the Badgers on Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
