COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's hockey team dropped a 7-1 decision to top-ranked Wisconsin Friday afternoon at the Kohl Center in Madison. The loss moved the Buckeyes to 15-14-4 overall and 12-14-1-1 in WCHA play, while the Badgers improved to 29-2-2 and 23-2-2-1 in the conference.
The Badgers struck first, scoring an even-strength goal at 8:03 in the opening stanza. Carolyne Prevost connected on a quick pass in front of the net to score. Brianna Decker and Madison Packer were credited with the assist.
Decker scored her first goal of the game at 3:34 in the second, giving Wisconsin a 2-0 lead. She followed with a score at 6:00 in the second to put the Badgers up three.
Senior captain Laura McIntosh notched Ohio State's lone goal of the game to cut the Wisconsin lead to two in the second period. After a Buckeye penalty put the Badgers on the power play, McIntosh cradled a pass from freshman Kari Schmitt and scored the short-handed goal on the breakaway at 9:48. The goal was the 10th of the season for the Waterloo, Ontario, product.
Prevost gave the home squad a three-goal lead going into the final intermission, scoring her second goal of the game at 12:03.
Three Badgers scored late in the third period to solidify the 7-1 win.
Wisconsin goaltender Alex Rigsby totaled 23 saves on the day, while Buckeye Lisa Steffes finished with 36.
The two squads close out the series with a 1:37 p.m. ET game Saturday from the Kohl Center. The game will be televised live on BTN.
