COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 7/8 North Dakota held on to a 3-2 victory over the Ohio State women’s hockey team Saturday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N. D.
North Dakota took a two goal lead into the first intermission as they tallied goals at 2:01 and 15:12 of the first period. Monique Lamoureux recorded the first score and the second from Meghan Dufault came on the UND power play.
Sophomore defenseman Kari Schmitt made it a 2-1 game with her fifth goal of the season, 7:42 into the second. Fellow sophomores Danielle Gagne and Sara Schmitt tallied assists on the score, their ninth and 18th helpers of the season respectively.
Dufault gave UND another two-goal advantage with her second goal of the game, third of the series. The goal came at 14:11 of the second and was assisted by Monique and Jocelyn Lamoureux, the third point of the game for each.
It didn’t take long for the Buckeyes to cut into the lead again as Gagne found the back of the net at 15:56 of period two for her eighth of the season, making it a 3-2 UND advantage. Picking up an assist on the play was freshman defenseman Cara Zubko.
Redshirt junior goaltender Chelsea Knapp finished with 23 saves for the Buckeyes, who were outshot 26 to 18. UND goaltender Shelby Amsley-Benzie stopped 16.
Ohio State (16-14-2, 11-13-2 WCHA) plays its regular season finale at Value City Arena, Feb. 22-23, taking on Minnesota State. Game times set for 2:07 p.m. Friday and 1:07 p.m. Saturday.
