Buckeyes Blanked by No. 1 Minnesota, 6-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team fell to the top-ranked Golden Gophers of Minnesota Friday night by a final score of 6-0 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.
Minnesota jumped out to an early lead in the first period on a goal from Hannah Brandt and would add two more, one from Dani Cameranesi and another one from Brandt coming on the Minnesota power play, to take a three-goal advantage into the locker room for the first intermission.
Brandt completed the hat trick three minutes into the second period to put OSU in a 4-0 hole. Cameranesi scored her second of the evening at the 12:15 mark of the second to stretch the lead to five goals after two periods and Rachael Bona scored with just over a minute remaining in the third period to give the Gophers their sixth score.
Senior goaltender Lisa Steffes got the start for OSU between the pipes stopping 23 of 28 shots faced. Redshirt senior goaltender Chelsea Knapp saw her first action of 2014 after replacing Steffes for the final stanza. Knapp finished with 14 saves for the Buckeyes while allowing one goal.
OSU was outshot 43-28 in the contest. The Buckeyes were held scoreless on their six power play opportunities. OSU did hold the Gophers to 1-6 on their power play chances.
Ohio State (7-12-2, 2-11-2 WCHA) and Minnesota (20-1-0, 14-1-0 WCHA) play for the final time in the regular season Saturday night at Ridder with game time set for 7:07 p.m. ET. The game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
