Parents are Ralph and Gail Schmitt ... has a twin sister, Kari, who also plays hockey for Ohio State ... three older siblings, Kirsten, Derek and Allison ... sister Allison was an eight-time NCAA champion swimmer at the University of Georgia and also won the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing as a member of the 4x200 free relay...sister Allison won 5 medals at 2012 Olympic Games in London incuding 3 golds, a silver and a bronze...brother Derek swam at Ohio University ... enjoys reading and scrapbooking ... member of the National Honors Society.
