COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's gymnastics team was picked third in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference office announced Wednesday. In addition, juniors Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer have been named Gymnasts to Watch in the conference.
Nebraska was picked first followed by Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Minnesota. Illinois, Iowa and Michigan State rounded out the poll.
Miller is a two-time first team All-Big Ten selection and was named a second team All-American on balance beam floor exercise after finishing sixth on beam and tying for eighth on floor at the NCAA Championships last April. The Collegeville, Pa., native has career highs of 9.950 on vault and beam and 9.975 on floor exercise.
Shaffer was a second team All-Big Ten honoree as a freshman and competed in every meet as a sophomore last season. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native has career bests of 9.950 on floor exercise, 9.900 on vault and 9.875 on beam.
The Buckeyes open the season at Bowling Green Jan. 5.
