COLUMBUS, Ohio – Alexis Mattern, a junior on the Ohio State women's gymnastics team, will compete in the first semifinal session of the NCAA Championships at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Louis, Mo. Mattern, who tallied a 39.250 to finish fifth at the NCAA Champaign Regional April 1, is one of 12 all-around individual qualifiers.
MATTERN IN 2017
Mattern has competed in the all-around in all 12 meets for the Buckeyes in 2017. Through the regular season, the Harrisburg, Pa., native ranked 26th nationally and fourth in the Big Ten in the all-around. In addition, Mattern ranked tied for 25th on vault and tied for 31st on floor exercise. Among Big Ten gymnasts, Matters ranked tied for third on vault and tied for fourth on floor exercise.
Mattern won or tied for the all-around title five times, won vault five times, picked up four floor exercise titles and won uneven bars twice this season.
BUCKEYES AT NCAA CHAMPAIGN REGIONAL
Ohio State earned a 195.700 to finish fifth in the NCAA Champaign Regional April 1 at State Farm Center. No. 5 UCLA won the meet with a 196.800 while No. 8 Oregon State finished second at 196.150 and No. 17 Iowa took third with a 196.050. No. 19 Illinois posted a 195.825 to finish fourth followed by the Buckeyes and Eastern Michigan rounded out the scoring at a 195.400.
Mattern posted a 39.250 to place fifth in the all-around and advance to the NCAA Championships. Mattern and Stefanie Merkle led the way with a 9.850 on floor exercise to tie for fourth.
