No. 23 Ohio State Travels to East Lansing for Michigan State Quad

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 23 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team travels to East Lansing for the Michigan State Quad at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The meet, which includes the Buckeyes, Spartans, Nebraska and Illinois, will be televised on BTN at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
Paced by strong efforts from seniors Victoria Aepli, Alex DeLuca, Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer, No. 24 Ohio State notched a season best team score when it defeated Ball State, 196.600-192.350, on Senior Day last Saturday afternoon in St. John Arena. The 196.600 team score was the eighth-highest in program history.

Shaffer won the all-around with a 39.350 while Miller tied her career-best 9.950 to win the vault title.

IN THE RANKINGS
Ohio State is one of six Big Ten teams ranked in this week’s GymInfo poll. Michigan sits eighth followed by No. 9 Nebraska, No. 13 Minnesota, No. 14 Illinois, No. 15 Penn State and No. 23 Ohio State.

The Buckeyes sit 22nd on uneven bars and balance beam. Individually, Sarah Miller is 20th on balance beam and Melanie Shaffer is 19th in the all-around.


 

 

B1G PRESEASON POLL
Ohio State was picked fifth in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference office announced Dec. 12. In addition, seniors Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer have been named Gymnasts to Watch in the conference.

Michigan was picked first followed by Nebraska, Minnesota, Penn State and Ohio State. Illinois, Michigan State and Iowa rounded out the poll.

AEPLI, SHAFFER NAMED CAPTAINS
Victoria Aepli and Melanie Shaffer have been named captains of the 2014 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team, head coach Carey Fagan announced Jan. 10.

OHIO STATE SIGNS FIVE FOR 2015
Ohio State head coach Carey Fagan announced the signing of three gymnasts to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period. Megan Feltham (Lewisburg, Pa.), Heather Hannon (Indianapolis, Ind.), Taylor Harrison (Newport News, Va.), Alexis Mattern (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Stefanie Merkle (Waterloo, Ontario) each signed NLIs with Ohio State for the 2015 season.

UP NEXT
The Buckeyes travel to State College, Pa., for the Big Ten Championships at 2 p.m. March 22.
