No. 24 Ohio State Welcomes Ball State to St. John Arena on Senior Day Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 24 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team hosts Ball State on Senior Day at 4 p.m. Saturday. Ohio State will honor seniors Victoria Aepli, Alex DeLuca, Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer at the meet in St. John Arena.

LAST TIME OUT
No. 22 Ohio State dropped a 196.175-194.950 decision last Sunday at West Virginia.

Sarah Miller won balance beam with a 9.875 while tying for first on vault with a 9.875. Melanie Shaffer finished second in the all-around with a 39.250.

IN THE RANKINGS
Ohio State is one of six Big Ten teams ranked in this week’s GymInfo poll. Michigan sits seventh followed by No. 9 Nebraska, No. 12 Minnesota, No. 13 Illinois, No. 19 Penn State and No. 24 Ohio State.

The Buckeyes sit 19th on uneven bars and balance beam and 25th on vault. Individually, Sarah Miller is tied for 11th on balance beam and Melanie Shaffer is 15th in the all-around.


 

 

B1G PRESEASON POLL
Ohio State was picked fifth in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference office announced Dec. 12. In addition, seniors Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer have been named Gymnasts to Watch in the conference.

Michigan was picked first followed by Nebraska, Minnesota, Penn State and Ohio State. Illinois, Michigan State and Iowa rounded out the poll.

AEPLI, SHAFFER NAMED CAPTAINS
Victoria Aepli and Melanie Shaffer have been named captains of the 2014 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team, head coach Carey Fagan announced Jan. 10.

OHIO STATE SIGNS FIVE FOR 2015
Ohio State head coach Carey Fagan announced the signing of three gymnasts to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period. Megan Feltham (Lewisburg, Pa.), Heather Hannon (Indianapolis, Ind.), Taylor Harrison (Newport News, Va.), Alexis Mattern (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Stefanie Merkle (Waterloo, Ontario) each signed NLIs with Ohio State for the 2015 season.

UP NEXT
The Buckeyes travel to East Lansing for the Michigan State Quad at 2 p.m. March 15. The meet will be televised on BTN.
