No. 22 Ohio State Hits the Road to Face West Virginia

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 22 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team travels to face West Virginia at 3 p.m. Sunday in Morgantown.

LAST TIME OUT
No. 23 Ohio State posted a season-high 195.925 in a meet against No. 14 Illinois and No. 19 Central Michigan last Sunday. Illinois won the meet with a 196.775 while Central Michigan finished second at 196.425.

Sarah Miller tied her career-best 9.950 to win the beam title while Melanie Shaffer posted a 9.900 on floor exercise to tie for second.

IN THE RANKINGS
Ohio State is one of six Big Ten teams ranked in this week’s GymInfo poll. Nebraska sits seventh followed by No. 8 Michigan, No. 12 Minnesota, No. 15 Illinois, No. 18 Penn State and No. 22 Ohio State.

The Buckeyes sit 20th on uneven bars, 22nd on balance beam and 24th on vault. Individually, Sarah Miller is tied for 18th on floor exercise and Melanie Shaffer is tied for 21st in the all-around.

B1G PRESEASON POLL
Ohio State was picked fifth in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference office announced Dec. 12. In addition, seniors Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer have been named Gymnasts to Watch in the conference.


 

 

Michigan was picked first followed by Nebraska, Minnesota, Penn State and Ohio State. Illinois, Michigan State and Iowa rounded out the poll.

AEPLI, SHAFFER NAMED CAPTAINS
Victoria Aepli and Melanie Shaffer have been named captains of the 2014 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team, head coach Carey Fagan announced Jan. 10.

OHIO STATE SIGNS FIVE FOR 2015
Ohio State head coach Carey Fagan announced the signing of three gymnasts to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period. Megan Feltham (Lewisburg, Pa.), Heather Hannon (Indianapolis, Ind.), Taylor Harrison (Newport News, Va.), Alexis Mattern (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Stefanie Merkle (Waterloo, Ontario) each signed NLIs with Ohio State for the 2015 season.
