No. 20 Ohio State Faces Iowa Friday Evening in Iowa City

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 20 Ohio State women's gymnastics team travels to Iowa for an 8 p.m. ET meet Friday.

LAST TIME OUT
No. 21 Ohio State posted another team season best in a 196.025-195.900 loss to No. 15 Minnesota last Friday in St. John Arena.

Melanie Shaffer won the all-around title and tied her career-best 39.4000. Shaffer won floor exercise with a season-high 9.950 and tied for the vault title with a season-best 9.900. Victoria Aepli won bars with a 9.875 while Sarah Miller took the balance beam title with a season-high 9.900.

IN THE RANKINGS
Ohio State is one of six Big Ten teams ranked in this week's GymInfo poll. Nebraska sits seventh followed by No. 8 Michigan, No. 14 Minnesota, No. 15 Illinois, No. 20 Ohio State and No. 21 Penn State.

The Buckeyes sit tied for 16th on uneven bars, 18th on balance beam and 22nd on vault. Individually, Sarah Miller sits tied for 22nd nationally on balance beam.


 

 

B1G PRESEASON POLL
Ohio State was picked fifth in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference office announced Dec. 12. In addition, seniors Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer have been named Gymnasts to Watch in the conference.

Michigan was picked first followed by Nebraska, Minnesota, Penn State and Ohio State. Illinois, Michigan State and Iowa rounded out the poll.

AEPLI, SHAFFER NAMED CAPTAINS
Victoria Aepli and Melanie Shaffer have been named captains of the 2014 Ohio State women's gymnastics team, head coach Carey Fagan announced Jan. 10.

OHIO STATE SIGNS FIVE FOR 2015
Ohio State head coach Carey Fagan announced the signing of three gymnasts to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period. Megan Feltham (Lewisburg, Pa.), Heather Hannon (Indianapolis, Ind.), Taylor Harrison (Newport News, Va.), Alexis Mattern (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Stefanie Merkle (Waterloo, Ontario) each signed NLIs with Ohio State for the 2015 season.
