No. 21 Ohio State Hosts No. 15 Minnesota at St. John Arena Friday

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 21 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team hosts No. 15 Minnesota at 7 p.m. Friday in St. John Arena.

The meet will be televised on tape delay on BTN at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Live results can be found on the women’s gymnastics schedule page at OhioStateBuckeyes.com or fans can follow Twitter.com/OhioState_WGYM for updates.

LAST TIME OUT
No. 21 Ohio State tallied a season high in a 196.150-195.625 loss to No. 24 Penn State last Saturday in St. John Arena.

Melanie Shaffer won the all-around title with a season-best 39.350. Sarah Miller won vault with a 9.900 and tied for the beam title with a 9.875. Shaffer took the floor exercise title with a 9.875 and tied with Victoria Aepli for the uneven bars title at 9.850.

IN THE RANKINGS
Ohio State is one of six Big Ten teams ranked in this week’s GymInfo poll. Michigan sits sixth followed by No. 8 Nebraska, No. 14 Illinois, No. 15 Minnesota, No. 21 Ohio State and No. 23 Penn State.

The Buckeyes sit tied for 18th on balance beam, tied for 20th on uneven bars and 21st on vault.

B1G PRESEASON POLL
Ohio State was picked fifth in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference office announced Dec. 12. In addition, seniors Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer have been named Gymnasts to Watch in the conference.


 

 

Michigan was picked first followed by Nebraska, Minnesota, Penn State and Ohio State. Illinois, Michigan State and Iowa rounded out the poll.

AEPLI, SHAFFER NAMED CAPTAINS
Victoria Aepli and Melanie Shaffer have been named captains of the 2014 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team, head coach Carey Fagan announced Jan. 10.

OHIO STATE SIGNS FIVE FOR 2015
Ohio State head coach Carey Fagan announced the signing of three gymnasts to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period. Megan Feltham (Lewisburg, Pa.), Heather Hannon (Indianapolis, Ind.), Taylor Harrison (Newport News, Va.), Alexis Mattern (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Stefanie Merkle (Waterloo, Ontario) each signed NLIs with Ohio State for the 2015 season.
