No. 23 Ohio State Hits the Road to Face No. 5 Michigan

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 23 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team travels to take on No. 5 Michigan at 4 p.m. Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.

LAST TIME OUT
No. 19 Ohio State dropped a 195.275-194.775 decision to No. 16 Rutgers Jan. 19 in St. John Arena.

Victoria Aepli won the bars title with a 9.875 and tied for the beam title at 9.850 while Sarah Miller took vault with a 9.875 and Melanie Shaffer tied for first on floor exercise with a 9.925.

IN THE RANKINGS
Ohio State is one of five Big Ten teams ranked in this week’s GymInfo poll. Michigan sits fifth followed by No. 9 Nebraska, No. 11 Illinois, No. 13 Minnesota and No. 23 Ohio State.

The Buckeyes sit 19th on balance beam and tied for 23rd on vault.

B1G PRESEASON POLL
Ohio State was picked fifth in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference office announced Dec. 12. In addition, seniors Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer have been named Gymnasts to Watch in the conference.


 

 

Michigan was picked first followed by Nebraska, Minnesota, Penn State and Ohio State. Illinois, Michigan State and Iowa rounded out the poll.

AEPLI, SHAFFER NAMED CAPTAINS
Victoria Aepli and Melanie Shaffer have been named captains of the 2014 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team, head coach Carey Fagan announced Jan. 10.

OHIO STATE SIGNS FIVE FOR 2015
Ohio State head coach Carey Fagan announced the signing of three gymnasts to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period. Megan Feltham (Lewisburg, Pa.), Heather Hannon (Indianapolis, Ind.), Taylor Harrison (Newport News, Va.), Alexis Mattern (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Stefanie Merkle (Waterloo, Ontario) each signed NLIs with Ohio State for the 2015 season.
