No. 19 Ohio State Opens 2014 Campaign Against No. 12 Oregon State, Bowling Green

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 19 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team opens its 45th season when it takes on No. 12 Oregon State and Bowling Green at 4 p.m. Saturday in St. John Arena.

Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for youth. Group tickets (10 or more) are also available starting at $4 when purchased in advance. Ohio State also will be holding an Operation Feed promotion for Saturday's meet where fans who bring two canned goods can receive admission for $4.  

A LOOK AT 2014
The Buckeyes return 10 letterwinners off the 2013 team, including Sarah Miller, an NACGC/W Regular Season All-American last season, and Melanie Shaffer, a second team All-Big Ten selection a season ago.

Ohio State is one of six Big Ten teams ranked in the 2014 GymInfo Preseason Coaches’ poll. No. 7 Michigan leads the conference, followed by No. 10 Nebraska, No. 14 Minnesota, No. 15 Penn State, No. 16 Illinois and No. 19 Ohio State.

The Buckeyes take on another ranked team, No. 12 Oregon State, Jan. 11 in St. John Arena.



Ohio State was picked fifth in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference office announced Dec. 12. In addition, seniors Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer have been named Gymnasts to Watch in the conference.

Michigan was picked first followed by Nebraska, Minnesota, Penn State and Ohio State. Illinois, Michigan State and Iowa rounded out the poll.

Ohio State head coach Carey Fagan announced the signing of three gymnasts to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period. Megan Feltham (Lewisburg, Pa.), Heather Hannon (Indianapolis, Ind.), Taylor Harrison (Newport News, Va.), Alexis Mattern (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Stefanie Merkle (Waterloo, Ontario) each signed NLIs with Ohio State for the 2015 season.

The Buckeyes host Rutgers at 2 p.m. Jan. 19 in St. John Arena.
