COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 14 Ohio State women's gymnastics team opens its 44th season when it travels to Bowling Green for a 4 p.m. dual meet Saturday at Anderson Arena.
A LOOK AT 2013
The Buckeyes return seven letterwinners off the 2012 NCAA Championship squad, including Sarah Miller, an All-American on balance beam and floor exercise last season, and Colleen Dean, an All-American on floor exercise a season ago.
Head coach Carey Fagan, the 2012 NACGC/W National Coach of the Year, returns for her ninth season while assistants Bill Lorenz and Meredith Yonushonis, who both earned National Co-Assistant Coach of the Year honors last season, are also back to help guide the Buckeyes.
IN THE RANKINGS
Ohio State is one of six Big Ten teams ranked in the 2013 GymInfo Preseason Coaches' poll. No. 7 Nebraska leads the conference, followed by No. 10 Michigan, No. 14 Ohio State, No. 16 Penn State, No. 18 Illinois and No. 23 Minnesota.
The Buckeyes will take on another ranked team, No. 9 Oregon State, Jan. 11 in Corvallis, Ore.
B1G PRESEASON POLL
Ohio State was picked third in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference office announced Dec. 12. In addition, juniors Sarah Miller and Melanie Shaffer have been named Gymnasts to Watch in the conference.
Nebraska was picked first followed by Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Minnesota. Illinois, Iowa and Michigan State rounded out the poll.
OHIO STATE SIGNS THREE FOR 2014
Ohio State head coach Carey Fagan announced the signing of three gymnasts to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period. Tenille Funches (Chicago, Ill.), Anna Hill (DeWitt, Mich.) and Jaine' VanPutten (Piscataway, N.J.) have each signed NLIs with Ohio State for the 2014 season.
Miller earned second-team All-America honors on balance beam and floor exercise last season while Dean garnered second-team All-America honors on floor exercise. The duo became the seventh and eighth All-Americans in Ohio State women's gymnastics history. It is the first time the Buckeyes have had multiple All-Americans in the same season. DeLuca is a two-year letterwinnner who posted career bests of 9.850 on bars and 9.875 on floor exercise a year ago.
The Buckeyes travel to Corvallis, Ore., for a dual meet against Oregon State at 10 p.m. ET Jan. 11.
