No. 24 Ohio State Finishes Fifth at Big Ten Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The No. 24 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team earned a 195.525 to finish fifth at the Big Ten Championships Saturday afternoon at Rutgers Athletic Center. No. 9 Michigan won with a 197.300, followed by No. 20 Illinois at 196.875, No. 16 Iowa at 196.725 and No. 13 Nebraska at 196.475.

The Buckeyes await their NCAA selection on Monday.

Ohio State opened the meet with a 48.975 on vault. Alexis Mattern tied her career high 9.900 to finish second while Olivia Aepli also notched a career-best 9.850.

The Buckeyes then notched another 48.975 on uneven bars. Kaitlyn Hofland earned a team-best 9.875 while Mattern tallied a 9.825.

Ohio State posted a 48.600 on balance beam in the third rotation. Stefanie Merkle and Jamie Stone led the Buckeyes with a 9.775.



The Buckeyes then concluded the meet with a 49.000 on floor exercise. Amanda Huang led Ohio State with a career-best 9.850 while Taylor Harrison, Jamie Stone and Merkle posted a 9.800.

Mattern, who was named to the Big Ten All-Championship team, notched a 39.025 in the all-around.
