COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 14 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team defeated Kent State, 196.925-195.775, Friday night in St. John Arena.
Ohio State started the meet on vault, posting a 49.275 to tie the season high on the event. Sophomore Sarah Miller led the way with a 9.95 to place first overall and tie her career best. Senior co-captain Nicole Krauter and junior Colleen Dean were next for the team with a pair of 9.875’s which tied for fourth overall.
In the second rotation, the Scarlet and Gray traveled to bars and posted a 48.975. The team was led by Dean who tied for first on the event with a 9.825. Senior Casey Williamson and Alyssa Marohn tied for third overall with a pair of 9.80’s. Kent State pulled ahead by .025 after the second rotation 98.275-98.250.
Next up for the Buckeyes was beam where they tallied a 49.250 and swept the top three places. The team was led again by Miller with a 9.95, tying her career high and placing first overall. Krauter with a 9.875 was next up for the team with a second place finish. Rounding out the top three for the Buckeyes was Marohn with a 9.85. After three rotations, Ohio State led once again, 147.500-146.975
Ohio State finished on floor with a 49.425. The Buckeyes were led by sophomore Melanie Shaffer with a 9.925. Dean and Miller tied for second with a pair of 9.90s.
Dean finished second in the all-around 38.825.
The Buckeyes are back in action at 1 p.m. March 10 when they face North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
