COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 11 Ohio State women's gymnastics team won a dual meet against No. 10 Penn State, 196.025-195.000, Saturday afternoon in St. John Arena.
Ohio State began on vault where the team tallied a 48.850. Sophomore Sarah Miller led the way with a 9.875 which was the top score of the meet. Junior Colleen Dean was close behind with a 9.825 for second overall. Freshman Sarah Grady and senior Alyssa Marohn brought in a pair of 9.750s to tie for fourth. The score tied Grady's career high.
Moving onto bars in the second rotation, every competitor either tied or set a new personal record, sweeping the top six spots overall. The team set a program record with a score of 49.325. Senior Casey Williamson, senior co-captain Taylor Jones and Dean all earned 9.875s to lead the Buckeyes and tie for first place overall.
In the third rotation, the Buckeyes moved onto beam. Once again Miller posted the top score to place first in the meet with a 9.900. Sophomore Melanie Shaffer earned a 9.775 to tie for third. After the third rotation, the Buckeyes fell behind Penn State, 146.700-146.550.
Ohio State posted a 49.475 to win floor exercise. Dean tied her career record with a 9.925 to win first place. Shaffer and Miller came in second with a pair of 9.900s. DeLuca and Jones rang in 9.875s. DeLuca tied her career high while Jones set a season high.
Dean, the lone Buckeye to compete in the all-around, won with a 39.350.
The Buckeyes are back in action at 7 p.m. March 2 when they host Kent State in St. John Arena.
