EAST LANSING, Mich. – The No. 19 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team defeated Michigan State, 195.575-194.250, Saturday afternoon in East Lansing.
The Buckeyes started the meet on bars, winning the event 48.925-47.525. Aly Marohn paced the Buckeyes with a 9.875 to take the event title, Melanie Shaffer tallied a 9.800 for a second-place finish and Maddie Herr and Rachel Abrams each posted a 9.775 to tie for third.
Ohio State then moved to vault, posting a 48.825 as the Spartans won the event with a 49.025. Shaffer led the Buckeyes and tied for third on the event with a 9.825.
After two rotations, Ohio State held a 97.750-96.550 lead over Michigan State.
The Buckeyes moved to floor exercise in the third rotation, topping the Spartans 49.025-48.750. Shaffer led the Buckeyes, tying her season-high 9.900 to take the event title while Alex DeLuca also tied her season-best 9.850 to tie for second.
Ohio State concluded the meet on beam with a 48.800 but the Spartans took the event with a 48.950. Sarah Miller took the event title for the Buckeyes with a 9.875.
Marohn tied for first in the all-around with a 39.075 while Shaffer finished third at 38.775
The Buckeyes host Illinois at 4 p.m. Feb. 23 in St. John Arena.
