Buckeyes Travel to Iowa for First Annual Diane Thomason Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's golf team will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, Oct.12-13, for the first annual Diane Thomason Invitational. The 54-hole event will take place on the par 72, 6,212-yard Finkbine Golf Course.
The invitational will feature a field of 12 teams including five Big Ten schools: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin

THE BUCKEYE LINEUP
Three freshmen, two juniors and one senior highlight the Buckeye lineup this weekend with all six playing in the team's first two tournaments of the season. Leading the way are freshmen Jessica Porvasnik and Katja Pogacar. The pair leads the team with a 73.33 and 74.17 stroke average, respectively.
LAST TIME ON THE LINKS
The Ohio State women's golf team closed out the competitive Windy City Collegiate Classic, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, finishing seventh overall with a 21-over 873. In a tournament that featured seven top 25 schools, the Buckeyes totaled rounds of 297, 282 and 294 on the par 71, 6,108-yard Northmoor Country Club in Chicago.
Freshmen Jessica Porvasnik and Katja Pogacar led the way as each finished tied for 15th with a 4-over 217. Junior Jan Chanpalangsri also notched a top 25 finish, coming in tied for 22nd with a 6-over 219. Her second-round score of 67 was a career-low for the Bangkok, Thailand, product.
The weather is shaping up for fall-like conditions heading into Saturday and Sunday. A 20 percent chance of rain is predicted Saturday with a high of 72. Sunday is shaping up to be a beautiful day with highs in the upper 60s and sunny skies.
A native of Hinckley, Ohio, Porvasnik comes to Ohio State with a handful of accolades. A four-year starter for Highland High School, she captured the 2012 Ohio Division I state individual title and tied the OHSAA record with a 140 in the win. This summer, Porvasnik finished first at a handful of events, including The Memorial Junior held at the Ohio State Golf Club.
Domela joins the Buckeye squad from Waalre, Netherlands. In 2010, she clinched the U18 Dutch Championship and went on to win the National Open in 2011 and 2012. Domela has competed in a handful of European championships, including the 2011 and 2012 European Ladies Amateur and the 2012 World Cup.
Pogacar, a native of Ljubljana, Slovenia, is a four-time Slovenian national champion (2008-12). She captured the 2012 Hungarian Ladies Amateur and won the 2011 Czech Amateur Championship. Like Domela, Pogacar also competed at the 2012 European Ladies Amateur and finished 20th overall.
Ohio State closes out the fall schedule, traveling to Wilmington, N.C., for the 12th annual Landfall Tradition, Oct. 25-27.
