ABOUT THE MARY FOSSUM
The Mary Fossum Invitational, which began in 1978, is held annually at Michigan State's Forest Akers West Golf Course in September. Named after Michigan State's longtime head coach from 1973-97, the Fossum Invitational features the top teams in the Midwest and is played on one of the premier collegiate golf courses in the country. Michigan State has won the event nine times, including six of the last seven.
Saturday is shaping up to be a great day for golf with a high of 68 degrees and sunny skies with no chance of rain. Sunday's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a stray thunderstorm possible and highs in the mid-60s.
A native of Hinckley, Ohio, Porvasnik comes to Ohio State with a handful of accolades. A four-year starter for Highland High School, she captured the 2012 Ohio Division I state individual title and tied the OHSAA record with a 140 in the win. This summer, Porvasnik finished first at a handful of events, including The Memorial Junior held at the Ohio State Golf Club.
Domela joins the Buckeye squad from Waalre, Netherlands. In 2010, she clinched the U18 Dutch Championship and went on to win the National Open in 2011 and 2012. Domela has competed in a handful of European championships, including the 2011 and 2012 European Ladies Amateur and the 2012 World Cup.
Pogacar, a native of Ljubljana, Slovenia, is a four-time Slovenian national champion (2008-12). She captured the 2012 Hungarian Ladies Amateur and won the 2011 Czech Amateur Championship. Like Domela, Pogacar also competed at the 2012 European Ladies Amateur and finished 20th overall.
The Buckeyes will travel to Chicago, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, for the Windy City Collegiate hosted by Big Ten rival Northwestern.
