No. 28 Buckeyes Conclude Regular Season at Lady Buckeye Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - No. 28 Ohio State women's golf hosts the 2013 installment of the 34th annual Lady Buckeye Invitational this weekend (April 19-20). The Invitational takes place on the par 72, 6,268-yard Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club. The two-day, three-round championship welcomes a field of 12 teamss; including 2013 champion Michigan State, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska Purdue and Ohio State all representing the Big Ten.

Competing for the Buckeyes will be three freshmen, three juniors and a senior. Leading Ohio State in scoring average is freshman Jessica Porvasnik. The Hinckley, Ohio, product has six rounds under par, a tournament win and a 73.33 stroke average. Classmate Zoe-Beth Brake has a top-five finish and a 73.80 average. Rounding out the top finishers is fellow freshman Katja Pogacar. Hailing from Ljubljana, Slovenia, Pogacar has a 74.37 average and low round of 69.



Senior Allison Harper averages a 74.94 and owns a top-five finish. Juniors Jan Chanpalangsri and Claudia Lim round out the six-player lineup with averages of 76.38 and 76.70, respectively. Competing as an individual will be junior Sheridan Balyeat.

Up to five players ranked in the top-100 are expected to compete in the 2014 Lady Buckeye Invitational. In addition to Ohio State's No. 49 Jessica Porvasnik, four visiting student-athletes are rated amongst the nation's elite.

The Michigan State duo of Liz Nagel and Allyssa Ferrell enter the weekend slotted No. 66 and No. 88, respectively. Purdue's Aurora Kan sits at No. 45 while Jennifer Ha of Kent State is ranked No. 92.

The Buckeyes concluded the Web.com Intercollegiate in third, boasting a final round score of 7-over 295. After three rounds of play, the Buckeyes carded a 13-over 877, to receive their third top-10 finish of the season. The two-day Intercollegiate was co-hosted by Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida, on the par 72, 5,967-yard course at Marsh Landing Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla.

Freshmen Katja Pogacar and Jessica Porvasnik both carded an even 216 to tie for 8th. Pogacar recorded a 2-over 74 in the third round, with eight birdies earned. Porvasnik dropped 10 birdies, with a final round score of 3-over 75.

Junior Claudia Lim finished tied for 25th, earning a 5-over 221, while her freshman teammate Zoe-Beth Brake carded an 8-over 224 for 41st place.

Taking home the team title was then-No. 31 Florida State with a 13-under 851.

The Buckeyes have hosted the Lady Buckeye Invitational since 1975. Ohio State has totaled 14 tournament titles, followed by Michigan State with five. The Spartans took home the team title last season with a 40-over 904, and former Purdue Boilermaker Laura Gonzalez captured the individual title with a 5-over 221.

The Buckeyes carded a 40-over 904 and former Buckeye Amy Meier earned a Top 5 finish with an 8-over 224 for a second place finish. Senior Allison Harper tied for seventh overall with a 12-over 228.

The weekend forecast calls for a high of 65 and mostly cloudy with 0% chance of rain on Saturday. Sunday looks to have a high 72 with partly cloudy skies and a slight change of showers.

The Buckeyes will travel to French Lick, Ind., for the Big Ten Championship on April 25-27.
