COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s golf team will participate in the 2013 Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on the par 72, 6,099-yard Kane‘ohe Klipper Golf Course March 12-13. The tournament is hosted by the University of Hawai’i in, Kane’ohe, O’ahu.

Two rounds of 18 holes will be played on Tuesday, followed by 18 holes on Wednesday.

OHIO STATE LINEUP
The Ohio State lineup features two seniors, one junior and two sophomores. Seniors Amy Meier and Susana Benavides highlight the group followed by junior Allison Harper and sophomores Jan Chanpalangsri and Claudia Lim. All five Buckeye have competed in all six tournaments so far this season. 


 

 

TOURNAMENT HISTORY
In the 2012 edition of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, Texas A&M claimed the title with a team total of 37-over 901 to edge UC Davis by four strokes. Gonzaga placed in third. Idaho’s Kayla Mortellaro finished first on the individual leaderboard by a one-stroke margin with a 5-over 221. 

In its 27-year history, 15 teams have captured the tournament’s title, with six teams having won the title more than once (Arizona, 7; Stanford, 2; Georgia, 2; USC, 2; Oklahoma State, 3; Texas A&M, 3).

LAST TIME OUT – ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL INTERCOLLEGIATE
Battling inclement weather conditions, Ohio State concluded the 2013 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship in 13th place. Senior Amy Meier finished tied for 13th to lead the Buckeyes, carding a 2-over 146 through two rounds of play. 

Sophomore Jan Chanpalangsri posted four birdies on the final day to end the tournament with a 10-over 154. The Bangkok, Thailand, native notched a career-low score of 2-under 70 to move up from 89th to 60th place in the final standings. Allison Harper totaled an 11-over 155 to tie 66th place. Claudia Lim posted a 13-over 157 to tie for 74th, while Susana Benavides ended the tournament in 88th place.

WEATHER CONDITIONS
Weather.com reports temperatures in the high 70s with a zero percent chance of rain. Wind is expected to be between 9-11 mph. 

BY THE NUMBERS
Individually, the Buckeyes have notched seven Top 20 finishes collectively. Senior Amy Meier leads the team with a 74.73 average and three Top 20 finishes, including a tied for seventh finish at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. Classmate Susana Benavides is second on the squad with a 76.4 average and has counted in 14 of 15 rounds played. 

UP NEXT
The Buckeyes will compete in the SMU/Dallas Athletic Club Invitational April 5-6 in Dallas. Following this, Ohio State will close out the regular season as host of the 33rd Lady Buckeye Invitational April 20-21 in Columbus. Round one of the Big Ten Championships is slated to start April 26 in French Lick, Ind.
