Porvasnik Named Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week
Feb. 26, 2014
COLUMBUS, Ohio-- Jessica Porvasnik of the Ohio State women's golf team was honored by the Big Ten Wednesday and named the league's Women's Golfer of the Week. The honor is the first of her career.
The freshman guided the Buckeyes to the team's first tournament victory of the season as Ohio State captured the Westbrook Spring Invitational, Feb. 23-24, with a program 54-hole record of 838 (-26). That mark beat the previous record set in May 2005 by 18 strokes.
Porvasnik clinched the first individual win of her career as she captured medalist honors by four strokes with a tournament-record 203 (-13). The Hinckley, Ohio, product finished with 14 birdies over three rounds and recorded the first hole-in-one of her career in round two on the par 3, 163-yard second hole using an 8-iron.
Porvasnik kicked off her record-breaking tournament with a 7-under 65 in round one, breaking the 11-year single round program record of 66. That mark was first set by Kristen White in 2003 and again by White in 2004. Porvasnik followed with rounds of 67 and 71 on her way to a 13-under 203 for the tournament.
Up next, the Buckeyes will compete at the Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., March 14-16.
