Buckeyes Slotted t-10th Entering Final Day of NCAA Championships
May 22, 2014
TULSA, Okla. - Ohio State Women's Golf is on the cusp of another top-10 finish at the NCAA Championships, occupying a tie for 10th place heading into the fourth and final round on Friday (May 23). The Buckeyes have reached the top-10 five times previously in school history - all under the direction of head coach Therese Hession - four of which occurred in the last 12 years.
For the third time in as many days, freshman Katja Pogacar posted Ohio State's lowest score on Thursday. Fellow freshman Jessica Porvasnik matched Pogacar for the top spot as both tallied 71s in round number three. Pogacar is in search of a top-10 finish herself, tied for 11th on the individual leaderboard. The Slovenian sits at 3-over (213) after rounds of 72-70-71.
Senior Allison Harper climbed the leaderboard on Day Three, ascending into a tie for 20th place. She carded a 72 Thursday and is plus-7 overall (74-71-72). Harper cruised through the first 16 holes, birdieing three of four holes at one point, and shooting under par (-1). The last two holes went bogey-double bogey, however, resulting in the final tab of 72.
Porvasnik was just the opposite, struggling a bit at the start before finishing strong. Following her second bogey in the first four holes, Porvasnik ripped off 14 straight holes of par or better to co-lead the team with a 71. She owns a share of 52nd place.
Freshman Zoe-Beth Brake improved her score for the second straight day, providing a 74 to the team tally. Her rounds have gotten better each day, registering subsequent marks of 81-75-74. Brake's 230 total puts her in a tie for 104th place. Junior Claudia Lim notched her best round of the championships as well, etching 76 onto her scorecard. For the week, Lim is in 122nd place at 24-over (234).
Ohio State will tee it up starting at 11:20 a.m. CT/12:20 p.m. ET for the final go-around on Friday. The Buckeyes are paired with Alabama and Northwestern. Holes 16, 17 and 18 can be viewed live via webcast at www.ncaa.com/liveschedule.
