Ohio State Ends Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in 13th

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Battling inclement weather conditions, the Ohio State women’s golf team concluded the final round of the 2013 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship Tuesday in 13th place. The 18-team tournament was held at the par 72, 6,105-yard English Turn Golf & Country Club course in New Orleans and featured 15 Top 50 teams.
UCLA and Southern California shared first place on the team leaderboard with a 4-over 580 after two rounds of play. Southern California captured their second Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate team title in three years with one-stroke victory over the Bruins in the playoff on the 18th hole. Baylor’s Hayley Davis captured the individual title with a total score of 2-under 140. She was tied for 20th place at the beginning of the final round and rallied back with a 4-under 68 to claim the title.
Senior Amy Meier finished tied for 13th to lead the Buckeyes, carding a 2-over 146 through two rounds of play. She compiled a 4-over 76 in the second round.
Sophomore Jan Chanpalangsri posted four birdies in her effort today to end the tournament with a 10-over 154. The Bangkok, Thailand, native notched a second round score of 2-under 70 to move up from 89th to 60th place in the final standings.
Allison Harper tallied a 7-over 79 in the second round to score an 11-over 155 and tie for 66th place. Claudia Lim totaled a 13-over 157 to tie for 74th, while Susana Benavides ended the tournament tied for 88th place with a 17-over 161 after two rounds of play.
Looking ahead, the Buckeyes will spend spring break participating in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Mar. 12-13 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
