Buckeyes Claim Team and Individual Title at Westbrook Spring Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio-- With a program record of 838, the Ohio State women's golf team captured the Westbrook Spring Invitational title in Peoria, Ariz. The Buckeyes tallied a third round score of 279 on the par 72, 6,269-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club Vistas Course to secure their win by a 10-stroke margin over second-place Oregon.
The Buckeyes' win was the first since the team captured the 2012 Lady Buckeye Spring Invite. The team's three-round total of 26-under 838 broke the program's 54-hole record previously set in May 2005 by 18 strokes. Ohio State totaled an 856 at the 2005 NCAA East Regional and that mark held for nine years.
Clinching the first individual win of her career was freshman Jessica Porvasnik. Leading after scores of 65 and 67 on day one, the Hinckley, Ohio, product carded a final round of 1-under 71 to take medalist honors by four strokes. Totaling a tournament record 13-under 203, Porvasnik finished with 14 birdies over three rounds and recorded the first hole-in-one of her career in round two on the par 3, 163-yard second hole using an 8-iron.
Porvasnik kicked off her record-breaking tournament with a 7-under 65 in round one, breaking the 11-year single round program record of 66. That mark was first set by Kristen White in 2003 and again by White in 2004.
Also finding spots in the top 10 were freshmen Zoe-Beth Brake and Katja Pogacar and senior Allison Harper. Brake, competing in only the second tournament of her career, finished tied for second overall with a 9-under 207. After rounds of 72 and 68 Sunday, Brake set a personal best with a 5-under 67 on the final day. The Whakatane, New Zealand, product totaled 14 birdies for the tournament.
Harper, competing as an individual, finished fifth with a 5-under 211 (71-70-70) to set a career low. The Upper Arlington, native, notched seven birdies on the tournament to offset only two bogeys. Pogacar, from Ljubljana, Slovenia, concluded the tournament in 10th with a career-low score of 2-under 214 with scores of 73-69-72.
Juniors Jan Chanpalangsri and Claudia Lim each moved up the leaderboard on the final day and closed out the Buckeye lineup with a 217 and 219, respectively. Following a pair of 74s on day one, Chanpalangsri followed with a 3-under 69 to set a 54-hole personal best and finished tied for 18th. Lim, from Bella Vista, Australia, tied a career-low score with a 219 and came in tied for 29th with scores of 71-76-72.
Up next, the Buckeyes will compete in the Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., March 14-16.
