COLUMBUS, Ohio – Casey Cole, a native of Nuangola, Pa., has been named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Cole played a key part of Ohio State’s 3-0 shutout of Rutgers last Friday, assisting on Maddy Humphrey’s first-half goal that gave the Buckeyes the lead for good. Cole and Humphrey worked a perfect give-and-go to set up the score.
In the past four games, Cole has a goal and two assists. She has started 11 of 12 games thus far and has six shots, three of which have been on goal. She assisted on a Brooke Hiltz goal at Penn State, scored against No. 7 Maryland on Oct. 2 and added her assist vs. Rutgers last Friday.
A second team All-America selection by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association coming out of high school, Cole played at Crestwood High School with current Buckeye sophomore Morgan Kile.
Ohio State (7-4, 2-1 Big Ten) concludes a four-game homestand on Friday when it welcomes Indiana to Buckeye Varsity Field. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
