COLUMBUS, Ohio – Esther Clotet Alsina, a freshman on the Ohio State field hockey team, has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced today.
Clotet Alsina, a native of Barcelona, Spain, had a hand in three of Ohio State’s six goals last week, scoring one and adding an assist against Kent State and then scoring again in yesterday’s 3-0 shutout of Ball State. Clotet Alsina is currently second on the team with 15 points (six goals, three assists).
Against the Golden Flashes on Friday, Clotet Alsina set up the Buckeyes’ first score by feeding Maddy Humphrey with a pass around midfield that led to a one-one-one breakaway for Humphrey against KSU goalie Andrea Rinehart. Early in the second half, Clotet Alsina tapped in a pass from Humphrey at close range to make the score 2-0.
Yesterday, Clotet Alsina put the finishing touches on a 3-0 win vs. Ball State when she scored off an assist from Humphrey just 11 seconds into the second half. Clotet Alsina has goals in six different games and Ohio State is 4-2 in those contests. Additionally, she has at least one point in four of the last six games.
Ohio State (5-7) travels to fifth-ranked Penn State (11-1) for a 4 p.m. contest on Thursday. The Buckeyes then return home the weekend on Oct. 14-16 for games vs. No. 7 Maryland (Oct. 14, 3:30 p.m.) and Rutgers (Oct. 16, 1 p.m.).
