COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 16 Ohio State field hockey team will begin to wrap up the home schedule this weekend, hosting Michigan State at 3p.m. Friday and Ball State at 1 p.m. Sunday at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes (8-4, 1-1 Big Ten) are returning to their home turf after falling, 2-1, at No. 11 Iowa last Sunday in Iowa City.
BUCKEYES IN THE BIG TEN
Sitting with a 1-1 league record, the Buckeyes are tied with Northwestern for third place in the Big Ten conference. Iowa (2-0) is in first place followed by Penn State (2-1), while Michigan State (1-1), Michigan (0-1) and Indiana (0-2) round out the league standings.
The Buckeyes are ranked in the Top 5 in multiple statistical categories, including tied for first in shutouts (4), second in penalty corners (91), shots (210), goals-against average (1.37) and third in goals scored (37) and fourth in scoring margin (1.61), shots per game (17.50) and saves (45).
The Ohio State Department of Athletics is celebrating its 100th year as a department and a member of the Big Ten Conference during the 2012-13 sports season. Commemorating this special anniversary, the Ohio State field hockey team will be wearing the official 100-year logo on their uniforms vs. Michigan State Friday. Fans can enter to win a commemorative centennial coin as part of the Buckeyes prize pack during the contest vs. the Spartans. The Buckeyes also will be available for post-game autographs Friday.

BUCKEYES GO PINK, WIN A CRUISE FOR TWO SUNDAY
The matchup vs. Ball State is the Buckeyes Go Pink game in helping breast cancer awareness as the OSU players will be wearing pink socks during the game. Free pink buffs also will be handed out to fans before the game. Fans also can enter to play in an in-game contest to win two free tickets for the 2013 Buckeye Cruise for Cancer Feb. 21-25. The winner will be announced following the conclusion of the game vs. the Cardinals.

SENIOR DAY ON BTN
The Buckeyes will conclude the 2012 home schedule vs. Penn State at 3 p.m. Oct. 19 live on BTN at Buckeye Varsity Field. The team will honor its senior class before the contest vs. the Nittany Lions.

BUCKEYES IN A NUTSHELL
Senior tri-captain Danica Deckard leads the team with 26 points and 11 goals, while fellow captain Berta Queralt has 21 points on nine goals and three assists. Freshman Peanut Johnson is third on the team in points with 11 on five goals and one assist, while junior midfielder Paula Pastor-Pitarque and sophomore Mona Frommhold each have nine points.
As a team Ohio State is in the Top 5 in several conference statistics, including tied for first in shutouts (4), second in goals against average (1.37), shots (210), goals allowed (17) and penalty corners (91), third in goals scored (37) and fourth in scoring margin (1.61).
OHIO STATE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Ohio State moved up to No. 16 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll released Tuesday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Six Big Ten programs received votes in the national rankings with Penn State (7) leading the way followed by Northwestern (9), Iowa (11), Michigan (15) and Michigan State (20). This season, Ohio State is 3-2 vs. ranked opponents.
SIX-GAME WIN STREAK
Twelve different members posted a point during the team's six-game win streak Sept. 12-Sep. 26. Berta Queralt notched 19 points, including two hat tricks, while Danica Deckard followed with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. Paula Pastor-Pitarque, Mona Frommhold and Peanut Johnson each had nine points during the unbeaten streak.

The Buckeyes tied the program record for most goals in a game (10) and posted the highest point total by a team (27) in a 10-1 victory over Missouri State Sept. 23 at Buckeye Varsity Field. Led by a hat trick and an assist by senior forward Berta Queralt, six different Buckeyes found the back of the cage. Freshman forward Peanut Johnson had five points, while senior forward Danica Deckard, sophomore midfielder Mona Frommhold and junior midfielder Paula Pastor-Pitarque each had four points. Freshman midfielder Emma Royce also scored vs. the Bears. Overall, Ohio State held 23-11 advantage in shots and a 6-4 lead in penalty corners.
OHIO STATE UPSETS NO. 10 NORTHWESTERN
Ohio State got off to a great start in conference action Sept. 21 after upsetting No. 10 Northwestern, 3-2, in Columbus.
The Scarlet and Gray are 22-1 vs. the Wildcats under 17th-year head coach Anne Wilkinson.
Offensively, senior captain Berta Queralt led the charge with three points on a goal and an assist, while fellow captain Danica Deckard scored a goal. Sophomore back Kaitlyn Wagner scored her first career goal and was assisted by junior Maria Swartz, who earned her first career point. Sophomore Mona Frommhold collected a point as well with an assist.
Defensively, the OSU backfield played solid throughout the entire contest, limiting Northwestern to eight shots, who came into the game ranked in the Top 10 nationally in scoring average and goals per game.
QUERALT CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS
Senior forward Berta Queralt posted back-to-back hat tricks in wins over Missouri State (Sept. 21) and Robert Morris (Sept. 26) to up her career points total to 138 points, which is third on the OSU career points record list. The OSU forward also moved to fifth overall on the OSU career goals list (46), passing former Buckeye Linda Haussener (2005-06). With the assist vs. the Bears, Queralt also elevated to second on the all-time career assists list (46), passing former Buckeye Saskia Mueller (2003-06).
A two-time All-American, Queralt leads all active Buckeyes in several offensive categories, including points (138), goals (46), assists (46) and gamewinners (12).
CAREER YEAR FOR DECKARD
Senior captain Danica Deckard has already set a career high with 26 points through 12 games to lead the Buckeyes in 2012. Deckard, a native of Selinsgrove, Pa., has collected eight multi-point performances, including a career-high seven points vs. Kent State Sept. 19. She is second in the conference in shots per game (6.91) and gamewinners (5), tied for second in shots (76), tied for third in goals (11) and fourth in points (26).
Freshman forward Peanut Johnson has been a productive offensive player for the Buckeyes in limited minutes in 2012. Johnson, a native of Dayton, Ohio, is third on the team in points after tying all 11 point in the last five games. Johnson scored her first career goal vs. Kent State Sept. 19 and followed with a season-high five points against Missouri State Sept. 23. Johnson is currently on a three-game point streak, posting four goals in the last three games, including her first goal in conference play last time out at Iowa Sept. 30.
SCOUTING THE NO. 20 SPARTANS
Michigan State is 6-6 overall and 1-1 in Big Ten play. The Spartans shut out Indiana, 3-0, before falling to Pacific, 3-2, last weekend at Ralph Young Field. Forward Abby Barker has 11 goals and two assists for 24 points in 2012, scoring three of the five MSU goals last weekend. Heather Howie follows with four goals and one assist for nine points. Goaltender Molly Cassidy has an. 814 save percentage and an 1.55 goals-against average.
BUCKEYES VS. MICHIGAN STATE
Ohio State is 37-19-3 all-time vs. the Spartans. Last season, the Buckeyes fell at Michigan State, 2-1, in strokes. Laura Napolitano tallied the lone goal for the Buckeyes in the contest.

A LOOK AT BALL STATE
The Ball State Cardinals are 3-8 overall and 1-3 in road games in 2012. Offensively, Ball State is led by Allie White and Tori Widrick, who both have collected 11 points this year. Goalkeeper Maddi Elliott is 2-5 with 4.91 goals-against average, while Shelby Henley is 1-3 with a .653 save percentage.
OHIO STATE VS. CARDINALS
The Buckeyes lead the all-time series, 12-7, against the Cardinals. Last time out, Ohio State defeated Ball State, 5-0, on the road in 2011 and was led by Danica Deckard, who notched her first career hat trick. The Scarlet and Gray have won the last four games by a combined 20 goals.

WILKINSON CLAIMS WIN NO. 200
Head coach Anne Wilkinson, who is in her 17th season at the helm of the Buckeyes, picked up her 200th victory at Ohio State after the squad posted its first win of the season in shutout fashion, downing No. 18 UNH, 1-0, Aug. 26 in Durham, N.H. With the win, Wilkinson becomes the first coach in program history to hit the 200-win mark.
Senior captain Danica Deckard scored the eventual gamewinner at 29:47 when she redirected a UNH back pass inside the right post of the cage. The Ohio State defense stood strong throughout the entire competition, limiting the UNH offense to seven shots and four penalty corners. The OSU backfield did not allow a shot or corner attempt in the final 20 minutes of regulation.
Ohio State will next travel to face Michigan at 1 p.m. Oct. 14 in Ann Arbor.
