COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior captain Danica Deckard and freshman Peanut Johnson of the No. 18 Ohio State field hockey team were named Co-Offensive and Freshman Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday. The pair helped the Buckeyes (7-3, 1-0 Big Ten) to three wins against Kent State, No. 10 Northwestern and Missouri State last week.
Deckard, a native of Selinsgrove, Pa., earns her first weekly award of the season and second of her career. The native of Selinsgrove, Pa., Deckard tallied 13 points on five goals and three assists for the week. She notched her second career hat trick and recorded one assist against the Golden Flashes Sept. 19 in an 8-2 win in Columbus. After scoring a goal vs. the Wildcats Sept. 21, Deckard wrapped up the weekend with a goal and two assists vs. the Bears Sept. 23. Deckard has seven multi-point games and leads the team with 23 points and ten goals in 2012.
Johnson, a native of Dayton, Ohio, notched seven points on three goals and one assist last week for the Scarlet and Gray. The OSU forward scored her first career goal vs. Kent State Sept. 19 and followed with a season-high five points against Missouri State Sept. 23. Johnson becomes the first OSU freshman to earn a conference weekly award since Paula Pastor-Pitarque was named freshman of the week during the 2010 campaign.
Ohio State concludes a four-game homestand vs. Robert Morris at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Buckeye Varsity Field.
