No. 18 Ohio State Falls to No. 17 Iowa, 3-0
The No. 18 Ohio State field hockey team fell, 3-0, against No. 17 Iowa Saturday afternoon in the home finale at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes (8-6, 2-1 Big Ten) honored senior tri-captains Jenn Sciulli and Ally Tunitis before the matchup vs. the Hawkeyes (9-3, 2-2 Big Ten).

COLUMBUS, Ohio - After posting three home wins last week, the No. 18 Ohio State field hockey team closes a four-game homestand vs. Robert Morris at 3 p.m. ET Wednesday at Buckeye Varsity Field before traveling to play No. 11 Iowa at 1 p.m. ET Sunday in Iowa City. The Buckeyes (7-3, 1-0 Big Ten) have won five-consecutive games, outscoring their opponents, 25-6, during the unbeaten span.

BUCKEYES IN A NUTSHELL
Senior tri-captain Danica Deckard leads the team with 23 points and 10 goals, while fellow captain Berta Queralt has 15 points on six goals and three assists. Sophomore midfielder Mona Fommhold has nine points, while junior midfielder Paula Pastor-Pitarque has eight points.  

As a team Ohio State is in the Top 5 in several conference statistics, including tied for second in shutouts (2), third in goals allowed (15), tied for third in shots (169) and fourth in scoring margin (1.44), scoring average (2.97), goals against average (1.44), shots per game (16.90) and goals scored per game (3.00).

BACK IN THE NATIONAL POLL
Ohio State jumped to No. 18 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll released Tuesday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Five Big Ten programs received votes in the national rankings with Penn State (6) leading the way followed by Northwestern (10), Iowa (11), Michigan (17) and Ohio State (18). This season, Ohio State is 3-1 vs. ranked opponents.

RECORD-SETTING PERFORMANCE  
Last time out, the Buckeyes tied the program record for most goals in a game (10) and posted the highest point total by a team (27) in a 10-1 victory over Missouri State Sept. 23 at Buckeye Varsity Field. Led by a hat trick and an assist by senior forward Berta Queralt, six different Buckeyes found the back of the cage. Freshman forward Peanut Johnson had five points, while senior forward Danica Deckard, sophomore midfielder Mona Frommhold and junior midfielder Paula Pastor-Pitarque each had four points. Freshman midfielder Emma Royce also scored vs. the Bears. Overall, Ohio State held 23-11 advantage in shots and a 6-4 lead in penalty corners.


OHIO STATE UPSETS NO. 10 NORTHWESTERN 

Ohio State got off to a great start in conference action Sept. 21 after upsetting No. 10 Northwestern, 3-2, in Columbus.

The Scarlet and Gray are 22-1 vs. the Wildcats under 17th-year head coach Anne Wilkinson.

Offensively, senior captain Berta Queralt led the charge with three points on a goal and an assist, while fellow captain Danica Deckard scored a goal. Sophomore back Kaitlyn Wagner scored her first career goal and was assisted by junior Maria Swartz, who earned her first career point. Sophomore Mona Frommhold collected a point as well with an assist.

Defensively, the OSU backfield played solid throughout the entire contest, limiting Northwestern to eight shots, who came into the game ranked in the Top 10 nationally in scoring average and goals per game.

BUCKEYE WIN STREAK  
Twelve different members have posted a point during the team's five-game win streak. The Buckeyes lead their opponents in multiple statistical categories during the span:
• 25-6 lead in goals   
• 19.2-11.0 advantage in shots per game
• 96-55 lead in shots   
• 41-28 lead in penalty corners 

QUERALT CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS 
Senior forward Berta Queralt posted a season-high seven points last time out vs. Missouri State Sept. 21 to up her career points total to 132 points and climb to third on the OSU records list passing former Buckeye Vanessa Immordino (2000-03). The OSU back also moved to seventh overall on the OSU career goals list, passing former Buckeye Lucy Clayton (2001-05). With the assist vs. the Bears, Queralt also elevated to second on the all-time career assists list, passing former Buckeye Saskia Mueller (2003-06).

A two-time All-American, Queralt leads all active Buckeyes in several offensive categories, including points (132), goals (43), assists (46) and gamewinners (12).

23 FOR NO. 23  
Senior captain Danica Deckard leads the team with 23 points. Deckard, a native of Selinsgrove, Pa., has collected seven multi-point performances, including a career-high seven points vs. Kent State Sept. 19. She is first in the conference in shots per game (7.22), third in shots (65), points per game (2.56) and goals per game (1.11, tied for third in goals (10) and fourth overall in points (23).

Deckard helped the Buckeyes claim their first win of the season after scoring the lone goal in the 1-0 shutout win at UNH Aug. 26 in Durham, N.H., before tallying two goals in the 2-0 shutout victory at American Aug. 31 in Washington, D.C.

SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
Robert Morris holds a 3-6 record heading to Columbus. Last time out, the Colonials fell, 1-0, vs. LaSalle Sept. 22 in Lynchburg, Va.  Offensively, Robert Morris is led by Jamie Hartley, who has 13 points on five assists and four goals, while Taleah Scott has nine points and Jess Martin-Brown has eight points. Goalkeeper Paige Neat is 3-2 overall with a 1.57 goals-against average.

BUCKEYES VS. ROBERT MORRIS
Ohio State leads the all-time series vs. Colonials, 2-0. Last time out, the Buckeyes defeated Robert Morris, 8-0, during the 2010 campaign in Columbus. Berta Queralt and Danica Deckard each had two goals in the last contest against the Colonials as the OSU offense outshot Robert Morris, 34-0, with an 11-0 advantage in penalty corners. Both victories over Robert Morris have been shutouts.

A LOOK AT NO. 11 IOWA

The Hawkeyes have won five-consecutive games and are 7-2 overall and 1-0 in league play. Last time out, Iowa defeated Central Michigan, 4-1, on the road Sept. 23. The squad claimed its first conference win after downing Michigan State, 1-0, Sept. 21 in East Lansing. Offensively, the Hawkeyes have four members with at least 10 points led by Kelsey Mitchell with 12 on five goals and two assists. Iowa Goalkeeper Kathleen McGraw is 7-2 with a 1.31 goals against-average. In 2012, the Hawkeyes are outscoring their opponents, 31-12, and have a 79-44 advantage in penalty corners.

OHIO STATE VS. HAWKEYES
Iowa leads the all-time series, 41-14, vs. the Buckeyes. Last time out, Ohio State fell to the Hawkeyes, 3-0, in the regular season home finale in 2011. Ohio State claimed a share of the Big Ten regular season championship last time out in Iowa City in 2010, defeating the Hawkeyes, 3-0.

WILKINSON CLAIMS WIN NO. 200
Head coach Anne Wilkinson, who is in her 17th season at the helm of the Buckeyes, picked up her 200th victory at Ohio State after the squad posted its first win of the season in shutout fashion, downing No. 18 UNH, 1-0, Aug. 26 in Durham, N.H.  With the win, Wilkinson becomes the first coach in program history to hit the 200-win mark.

Senior captain Danica Deckard scored the eventual gamewinner at 29:47 when she redirected a UNH back pass inside the right post of the cage. The Ohio State defense stood strong throughout the entire competition, limiting the UNH offense to seven shots and four penalty corners. The OSU backfield did not allow a shot or corner attempt in the final 20 minutes of regulation.

VOELKER CLAIMS FIRST CAREER WIN
Junior goalkeeper Emma Voelker posted her first career victory in front of the cage in the team's 1-0 shutout over No. 18 UNH. Voelker, a native of Timonium, Md., made four saves vs. the Wildcats in 70 minutes of action. After 10 games, she is second in shutouts (3), third in saves per game (4.10) and goals-against average (.144).

Ohio State will next prepare for two home games at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes face Michigan State Oct. 5 and Ball State Oct. 7.
