Buckeyes Go Undefeated This Spring

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team tallied an undefeated record this spring, most recently defeating Kent State and Indiana April 7 in Bloomington, Ind., by scores of 5-0 and 1-0, respectively. With a 4-0-2 mark the Buckeye finished the Midwest Spring League Season in second place.

The Buckeyes began their spring competition in East Lansing, Mich., defeating Central Michigan, 3-0, before downing Michigan State, 1-0. Berta Queralt, Peanut Johnson and Alexis Allen each scored for the Buckeyes vs. the Chippewas. Queralt tallied the eventual gamewinner against the Spartans, while goalkeeper Sydney Stype, who earned the team’s Sprit award, collected multiple key saves to guide Ohio State to the victory over the Big Ten opponent.

Ohio State then tied twice the following week in Columbus against Louisville (1-1) and Miami (2-2) April 6. Mona Frommhold scored the lone goal vs. the Cardinals following a corner with time expiring on the clock at Buckeye Varsity Field. 2012 Ohio State Defensive Player of the Year Arielle Cowie highlighted the draw against the RedHawks with a great chip shot from an interception for a goal.

Sophia Pifer, the team’s Harriet B. Reynolds award winner for highest GPA, and Frommhold each posted goals vs. the Golden Flashes April 7. Ohio State wrapped up the spring season with a victory against Indiana as Emma Royce rocketed a shot on a corner for the eventual gamewinner vs. the Hoosiers.



The Buckeyes also held their annual awards banquet highlighted by Paula Pastor-Pitarque and Danica Deckard who were named Co-Most Valuable Players.
