COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 24 Ohio State field hockey team concluded the 2012 regular season with a 3-1 win at Indiana Saturday afternoon in Bloomington, Ind. The Buckeyes (10-8, 2-4 Big Ten) scored two goals in the first half and added another goal in the second half en route to the win vs. the Hoosiers (9-8, 0-6 Big Ten).
Offensively, the Scarlet and Gray were led by senior captain Berta Queralt, who had a goal and an assist, while senior Paula Pastor-Pitarque and freshman Peanut Johnson each tallied a goal. Senior captain Laura Napolitano also had an asssit.
In the first half, Ohio State struck first when Queralt, a native of Barcelona, Spain, posted an unassisted goal at 12:58 on a deflection in front of the cage. Queralt now has 29 points (12g, 5a) in 2012.
Ten minutes later, the Buckeyes extended their lead to 2-0 after Johnson dribbled her way through traffic in the circle and scored in front of the net at 23:30. The native of Dayton, Ohio, Johnson has collected 15 points on six goals in her first season with Ohio State.
The Hoosiers got on the board at the end of the first half when Mariella Grote took a pass on the left side of the cage for the goal with the assist from Morgan Fleetwood at 31:20.
In the second half, the Buckeyes regain a two-goal advantage after Pastor-Pitarque scored off a corner at 63:29 with the assists from Queralt and Napolitano, respectively.
Junior goalkeeper Emma Voelker improved to 10-8 overall, collecting four saves vs. the Hoosiers.
Overall, Ohio State held a 23-10 lead in shots and a 10-4 lead in corners.
Ohio State will now prepare to begin the 2012 postseason at the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament Nov. 1-4 in Iowa City, Iowa.
