Ohio State Falls at No. 8 Penn State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State field hockey team fell, 6-1, at No. 8 Penn State Friday afternoon in University Park, Pa. Sophomore forward Peanut Johnson scored her eighth goal of the season in the second half against the Nittany Lions (9-3, 3-0 Big Ten). With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in Big Ten play.
Lauren Purvis scored the opening goal of the contest at 3:59 when she sent a rebound past Ohio State goalkeeper Sarah Lemieux for the 1-0 lead. The Nittany Lions took a two-goal advantage at 19:18 when Amanda Dinunzio scored when she received a pass inside the circle and found the back of cage. Penn State made it 3-0 just a minute later after Brittany Grzywacz scored off a corner a 20:49. The Nittany Lions went into halftime with a four-goal lead following a goal by Taylor Herold at 22:22 when she struck a shot in the back of the net off a PSU corner. Lemieux notched five saves in the first half vs. Penn State.
In the second half, Penn State continued its momentum after Jenna Chrismer scored when she slid a shot past Lemiuex at 40:44. The Buckeyes got on the board at 58:43 when Johnson, a native of Dayton, Ohio, picked up a loose ball in front of the cage and flicked a shot past the PSU keeper. With the goal, Johnson now has a team-best eight goals and 17 points this year.
Penn State tallied its sixth goal of the afternoon in the final 10 minutes of competition. Lemieux tied her season high with eight saves vs. the Nittany Lions.
The Buckeyes return to Columbus for two home Big Ten games next weekend at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Scarlet and Gray face Iowa Oct. 18 before hosting conference-rival Michigan Oct. 20. As always, admission is free.
