Davis, Calif. – The Ohio State field hockey team dominated every offensive category on Sunday against UC Davis and prevailed with a 1-0 victory over the Aggies. The win moves the Buckeyes to 6-5 on the season, while UC Davis falls to 1-9.
A goal in the 57th minute from senior forward Natalie Faust put the Scarlet and Gray ahead for good. After a shot from Casey Cole was saved by the UC Davis goalkeeper, Faust found herself in good position and pushed the rebound past the keeper for the second goal of her career.
In net for Ohio State, senior goalie Liz Tamburro collected her ninth-career shutout to move her into seventh all time in program history in the category. The Ohio State defensive corps only allowed three shots the whole game, two of which Tamburro stopped for saves.
The Buckeyes racked up 27 shots on the afternoon, 15 of which were on net. Juliette Duquesne (four shots), Maartje Bongers (three shots) and Esther Clotet Alsina (three shots) led Ohio State in shots on goal.
Ohio State took eight penalty corners while allowing zero opportunities for the Aggies in that department. UC Davis removed its goalie for an extra-man advantage for the final 1:27 of the game, but Ohio State did not allow any shots in that timeframe.
The Buckeyes welcome Penn State to Buckeye Varsity Field on Friday (Oct. 6) for their fourth conference game of 2017. The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m. ET.
