Ohio State Falls at Temple in Season Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team fell, 4-1, against Temple in its season opener at the 2013 Conference Cup in Philadelphia, Pa. Both teams battled in the first half as the score was tied heading into halftime, however, the Owls (1-0) were able to collect three goals in the final 35 minutes to claim the victory vs. the Buckeyes (0-1).
Freshman midfielder Paige Hamilton scored her first career goal at 14:26 to put the Buckeyes ahead, 1-0. The native of Port Moody, British Columbia, Hamilton tallied an unassisted score after beating the Temple goalkeeper one-on-one in the circle.
But the Owls rebounded quickly to tie the game, 1-1, at 16:03 when Nicole Kroener redirected a shot on a penalty corner. The final 19 minutes of the first half remained scoreless with Ohio State outshooting Temple, 7-4, in the opening 35 minutes.
In the second half, the Owls took a 2-1 advantage at 41:01 when Katie Foran scored five yards out on the left side of the circle following a pass by Amber Youtz. The Scarlet and Gray then notched six-consecutive shots on Temple, but could not find the back of the cage. The Owls then took a two-goal lead at 59:56 after Youtz scored on a tipped shot following a TU penalty corner. Temple was able to add a fourth goal in the final minute of competition when Molly Doyle scored on a direct corner at 69:03.
Overall, Ohio State had an 8-5 lead in corners, while both teams notched 14 shots in the contest.
The Buckeyes will now face No. 20 UNH at 1 p.m. ET Sunday to conclude action at the Conference Cup.
