Hart Garners B1G Freshman of the Week Honors
Alexa Hart is the second Buckeye to earn B1G Freshman of the Week honors this season
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State freshman forward Alexa Hart was named B1G Freshman of the Week on Tuesday for her effort in a pair of Buckeye victories last week.
Hart averaged a double-double in the two wins, scoring 14.5 points and grabbing 11.5 rebounds per game. She also swatted a total of nine shots and had five steals.
In the win over Arkansas State last Thursday, the North Ridgeville, Ohio native scored a season-high tying 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year. She also blocked seven shots and had a season-high four steals. Against Western Michigan on Sunday, Hart grabbed 11 rebounds, scored nine points and blocked two more shots.
For the year, Hart leads the Big Ten and is second in the country with 47 blocked shots (4.3 bpg). She is scoring 11.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game and also leads the B1G in shooting percentage at .644.
Junior guard Ameryst Alston, who was named B1G Player of the Week on Nov. 17, was named to the B1G Honor Roll this week. She averaged over 20 points, five rebounds and four assists in the two wins last week. Alston had four steals and played an average of 37.5 minutes while helping the Buckeyes to its two best defensive games of the season.
Hart, Alston and the rest of the Buckeyes will return to action on Monday, Dec. 22, when they take on No. 20 West Virginia. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. from Value City Arena.
