Setting the Scene

  • The Buckeyes will look for three-straight wins when it hosts Canisius this Sunday afternoon.
  • The game will tipoff at 2 p.m. at Value City Arena.
  • This will be the third all-time meeting between the two teams as Ohio State has won the first two by an average of 37.5 points.
  • The Buckeyes, who are 7-3 on the season, have won two-straight and are coming off a 108-73 victory over Southern last Thursday.
  • Canisus enters the game at 2-6 overall and is embarking on a five-game road stretch. The Griffins will not play at home again until Jan. 5.

Noting The Buckeyes

  • Ohio State enters the game 7-3 overall and has won two-straight following a 108-73 victory over Southern last Thursday.
  • OSU is ranked No. 12 in both the AP poll and the Coaches Poll.
  • Junior Kelsey Mitchell became the fastest player in NCAA history to 2,000 career points as she reached the mark in just 79 games.
  • Mitchell is now just 10 points away from tying Samantha Prahalis for 6th place in OSU history and 15 points from tying Tayler Hill for 5th place.
  • Mitchell is also the school's all-time three-point leader 289 career three-pointers. There are just four players in Big Ten history with 300 or more career three-pointers.
  • Freshman Tori McCoy went 10-for-10 from the floor against Southern on Dec. 7 which tied the school's single-game record for most FGs without a miss. She finished with a season-high 25 points.
  • Stephanie Mavunga has notched a double-double in three of the six games in which she has played and has been the team's leading rebounder in four of those games.
  • Ohio State had a tremendous second half effort in its win over Cincinnati, limiting UC to just 10 points over the final two quarters and just one point in the fourth. The 10 points were the fewest points allowed in a half since 2012 and the one point was the fewest ever allowed in a quarter.
  • The Buckeyes led the Big Ten and were third in the country last season in scoring at 86.0 ppg and is averaging 87.9 points per game this season.
  • The Buckeyes were 273rd in the country last year with a -3.5 rebounding margin. So far this year, OSU has a +7.8 margin and is second in the conference in rebounds per game at 46.3.
  • Kevin McGuff is in his fourth season with the Buckeyes and his 15th overall as a head coach. He has a career record of 329-139 (.703) and 74-40 (.649) with the Buckeyes.

Noting Canisius

  • Canisius enters Sunday's game with a record of 2-6 overall and 1-1 in the MAAC.
  • The Griffins have a win over St. Bonaventure and a conference win over Monmouth.
  • Canisius is starting a five-game road swing on Sunday and will not play another home game until Jan. 5.
  • Four Griffins are averaging in double-figures led by Sara Hinriksdottir at 14.0 ppg. She also leads the team at 5.4 rpg and has a team-high 23 assists and 11 blocks.
  • Lauren D'Hont is scoring 11.8 ppg while Saliah Serrette is at 10.4 ppg and Maria Welch checks in with a team-high 14 three-pointers and 10.1 points per contest.
  • Canisius is led by Terry Zeh who is the program's all-time winningest head coach. He is in his 13th season at the helm and has guided the Griffins to its only two postseason appearances at the DI level.

Series History vs. Canisius

  • Sunday's game will be the third all-time meeting between Ohio State and Canisius.
