COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State guard Kelsey Mitchell was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday for her performance over the weekend at the Paradise Jam.

Mitchell led the Buckeyes in scoring in all three games of the tournament and averaged a Big Ten-best 26.7 points per game. She scored a season-high 35 points and tied a school record by going 14-of-14 from the free throw line in the win over Clemson on Thursday.

Mitchell played 124 of the 130 total minutes in the three games last week. She scored a team-high tying 26 points in the double-overtime comeback victory over Florida Gulf Coast in the tournament finale.

This was Mitchell's first Freshman of the Week honor of her career. Ameryst Alston was the last Buckeye Freshman of the Week as she earned the award twice during the 2012-13 campaign.

Mitchell and the Buckeyes return to action on Wednesday when they host Pitt as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Value City Arena.
