Setting the Stage
Ohio State welcomes Florida State to Value City Arena Wednesday for the 2011 Big Ten/ACC Women's Challenge.
The Seminoles are 3-4 on the season, but have faced tough competition in the early going. After opening the season with wins over USF and Minnesota, FSU dropped its first game against Arkansas in Daytona Beach Fla., at the Women's Basketball Invitational Tipoff. A 72-58 loss at Florida followed before a win at home over Georgia State and consecutive losses to Louisville (85-76) and Nebraska (66-63) at home.
This will be the second meeting with Florida State, who feature three players from Ohio, including 6-4 center Cierra Bravard. The only other meeting was in the opening round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament, a 60-49 FSU win in Des Moines, Iowa.
Prahalis Named Big Ten POW
Ohio State senior point guard Samantha Prahalis has been named the Big Ten player of the week in recognition of her performance last week in wins over Howard, Stony Brook and LSU. Prahalis posted a pair of 20-point games, averaging 20.3 points, 8.7 assists and 6.0 rebounds while recording a +6.5 assist/turnover ratio with 26 assists and just 4 turnovers in three games as Ohio State improved to 5-0. This is Prahalis' fifth weekly honor from the Big Ten.
In a win over No. 20 LSU Sunday, Prahalis flirted with a triple-double, scoring 28 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out eight assists. She also hit a career-high six three-pointers in the win, including back-to-back 3's in the second half to help OSU pull away from the Lady Tigers. In the win over Stony Brook Friday, she scored 25 points, had 11 assists and zero turnovers in just 28 minutes. For the week, Prahalis shot 47 percent from the field, 42 percent from three and 91 percent from the stripe.
