SETTING THE SCENE

  • Ohio State will play its second of three home games this weekend when it host Belmont on Thursday at Value City Arena.
  • Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
  • The Buckeyes opened the year with a pair of losses to the top two teams in the country. They fell at No. 2 South Carolina last Friday night and then to top-ranked UConn on Monday. 
  • Belmont has started the year with a pair of home victories over Young Harris and UAB.
  • The game will be streamed on BTN Plus. It is available online or through the BTN2Go app. Geoff Hammersley and George Reese will have the call.
  • The game can also be heard on ESPN 1460 AM in the Columbus area and on www.OhioStateBuckeyes.com. 

NOTING THE BUCKEYES
  • Ohio State is the first team in NCAA history to open a season against the top two ranked teams in the country.
  • The Buckeyes have opened the season 0-2 for just the second time in program history and the first since the 1979-80 season.
  • Senior Ameryst Alston and sophomore Kelsey Mitchell were each named to the preseason Wooden Award Watch List.
  • Ohio State returns all five starters and eight of its nine letterwinners from last season.
  • The Buckeyes return all but 32 of their school-record 2,836 points as well as all but 36 of their 1,420 rebounds from last year. 

BELMONT SNAPSHOT
  • The Bruins opened the year with a victory at home over Young Harris (11/13) and a nice come-from-behind win at home over UAB (11/15).
  • Belmont trailed by 12 points to UAB before closing the gap in the fourth quarter and pulling out a 63-62 victory.
  • Sierra Jones scored 17 points in the win over UAB and leads the team in scoring through two games at 12.5 ppg.
  • Belmont is averaging 9.0 three-pointers per game in the first two games and is shooting 40 percent as a team from beyond the arc.
  • Seven different players on the roster have recorded a three-point field goal on the year.
  • Series History vs. Belmont 
  • This will be the first game between the two teams.

MCGUFF VS. BELMONT
  • Like the Buckeyes, head coach Kevin McGuff has never faced the Bruins.

BRAZILIAN TRIPS THIS SUMMER
  • While their paths didn’t cross, both Ohio State and Belmont women’s basketball teams took foreign trips to Brazil this summer.
  • The Buckeyes spent three days in Sao Paulo from August 7-9 and then were in Rio de Janiero from August 10-15.
  • Ohio State toured both cities and played three exhibition games on the trip.
  • The Bruins’ trip was a Sports Evangelism trip to Rio from August 3-12. They also played three exhibition games.
