Big Ten Championship Ring Presentation Pregame

 

Ohio State will host its second and final exhibition game of the season on Sunday when it plays Urbana at 1 p.m. at the Schottenstein Center. The Ohio State men’s basketball team will play Wooster in an exhibition game at 4 p.m. following the women’s game.

NOTING OHIO STATE

  • Ohio State won its exhibition opener last Sunday with a 110-80 over defending DII national champion Ashland.
  • Kelsey Mitchell and Stephanie Mavunga led the way with 28 points each while Mavunga added 23 rebounds.
  • Ohio State is ranked No. 5 in the AP preseason poll, marking just the third time Ohio State will start a season ranked in the top-5.
  • The Buckeyes are coming off a season that saw them go 28-7 and win their 15th Big Ten Championship.
  • OSU returns nine letterwinners and boasts a roster of eight upperclassmen.
  • The Buckeyes were picked to win the Big Ten this season by both the media and the conference’s head coaches.
  • Kelsey Mitchell returns as the team’s leading scorer. She averaged 22.6 ppg last season and made 115 three-pointers. She was named the Big Ten’s Player of the Year and earned her third All-American honor.
  • Last year, in her first as a Buckeye, Stephanie Mavunga became just the third player in school history to average a double-double for an entire season, scoring 11.4 points and grabbed 10.8 rebounds per game.
  • Mavunga and Mitchell were both named to the preseason All-Big Ten Team.

NOTING URBANA

  • Urbana was 6-20 last season and finished 3-19 in the Mountain East Conference
  • Five Blue Knights averaged in double figures last year and four of those players return this season.
  • Sylvia Hudson led the way with 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Danie Snyder scored 13.6 ppg and Stefanie Davis averaged 11.9 ppg to go with a team-high 93 assists.
  • Megan Beachy made a team-best 50 three-pointers and averaged 11.4 points per contest.
  • Urbana made a coaching change in the offseason and Dayton-area native Andrea McCloskey is now at the helm. She is coming-off six successful seasons at Georgetown College (NAIA).
