Buckeyes Receiving Plenty Of Preseason Love
COLUMBUS, Ohio – As the start of the season draws closer, various outlets are releasing their preseason projections for the year. With the return of all five starters and eight letterwinners from last season, the Buckeyes have gotten a lot of preseason recognition.
Both The Sporting News and Athlon Sports have ranked the Buckeyes No. 5 in their preseason polls, citing the returns of sophomore guard Kelsey Mitchell and senior guard Ameryst Alston as reasons to think the Buckeyes can make a deep run this March. Alston is a two-time first team All-Big Ten honoree and has averaged better than 19 points per game over the last two years.
The Sporting News named a 10-person first team preseason All-America which included Mitchell. Alston received second team accolades while sophomore forward Alexa Hart was named to the 10-person third team. Mitchell was also listed on the on the Athlon preseason first team.
In the Lindy’s Sports preseason rankings, the Buckeyes start the year ranked 13th while Mitchell is named to the first team preseason All-America team. Slam Magazine has pegged Ohio State No. 7 in its version of the preseason rankings.
The Buckeyes were 24-11 last year and made runs to the finals of the Big Ten Tournament and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The season begins with an exhibition game on Nov. 1 against Ursuline at Value City Arena.
The regular season starts with a bang as the Buckeyes travel to South Carolina on Nov. 13 and then return home to host UConn on Nov. 16. Both of those teams are ranked No. 1 or 2 in the preseason projections.
