COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State graduate Kianna Holland will begin the OSU Sport Management graduate program this coming fall. Holland graduated this past winter with her sport management undergraduate degree.
The Seneca, S.C. native continues her academic career and will remain an integral part of the women’s basketball program but due to multiple injuries she will not compete athletically for the Buckeyes moving forward.
“Kianna has worked really hard these last couple of years to put herself in a position to be a great basketball player and I was looking forward to her contributions on the court but I am excited that she is going to continue to be a part of our program,” said head coach Kevin McGuff. “She is an extremely positive person and a tremendous teammate and I look forward to her having a positive impact on the team.”
Holland transferred to Ohio State from Duke at the start of the spring semester in 2014. She then suffered an ACL injury in October of 2014 and missed the entire 2014-15 season. Prior to playing a game for the Buckeyes, Holland was selected by her teammates as a team captain for the 2015-16 season. She averaged 7.3 points per game in three contests that season but was sidelined again by another knee injury. Holland has since battled through three additional surgeries over the past two years.
“This has been a long process and I could not have gotten to where I am today without the help and hard work from our athletic trainer Chalisa Fonza and physical therapist Kristin Holbrook,” Holland said. “They both have been extremely positive and unselfish with their time in aiding me in my rehab and I would really like to thank both of them.”
“I would also like to thank Coach McGuff and the entire coaching staff as well as my teammates and the athletic department for being so supportive of me,” Holland continued. “I am blessed to be a member of this program and this university and I look forward to contributing to what should be a great season.”
