LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Ohio State sophomore Kelsey Mitchell was a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award and was invited to Los Angeles for the College Basketball Awards Show on Friday, April 8.
Upon arrival on Thursday evening, Mitchell joined the other finalists and members of the LA Athletic Club for a reception dinner at the LAAC Ballroom. The finalists were introduced as well as the John R. Wooden Legend of Coaching honoree Tubby Smith.
On Friday morning, the finalists were given a tour of the Microsoft Theater and the ESPN LA studios. The men’s finalists did a live hit on SportsCenter and ESPN Radio during the visit. Lunch and bowling at Lucky Strike Lanes provided a little relaxation before the show Friday night.
For the second-straight year, the College Basketball Awards Show took place at The Novo inside of the Microsoft Theater. The College Gameday crew of Rece Davis, Seth Greenberg, Jay Williams and Jay Bilas hosted the show and helped presenters Julius Erving, Karl Malone, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Ann Meyers Drysdale honor the award winners. Connecticut star Brianna Stewart won the women’s John R. Wooden Award for the second-straight season.
A nice dinner wrapped up the awards show Friday night and the weekend concluded with a clinic with members of the LA Special Olympics. Click the link above for a photo gallery from the weekend.
